ANR Week Seminar: Sustainable Intensification of the Rural Landscape: Protecting Soil Health, Water Quality, and Farm Profitability. The seminar will include two presentations on phosphorus reduction in surface water by Dr, Chad Penn, USDA-ARS research scientist. There will be a presentation on the benefits of using Silvopasture by Julie Crick and Kable Thurlow from MSU Extension. Dr. Stephan Gasteyer from MSU will talk about Engaging Local Knowledge: Farmers and Community Involvement in Watershed Management. Rebecca Power, director for North Central Region Water Network is invited to talk about Strengthening Conservation in the Great Lakes Region, and local farmer, Jim Graham will discuss Profitable and Sustainable Farm Woodlot Management. The seminar will conclude with a combined Q and A panel of all the speakers.
Preregistration is required. Registration includes a box lunch to encourage social distancing. However, lunch is not guaranteed for walk-ins, or for any registration received by mail after March 7. Registrations canceled prior to February 28 will be reimbursed less $10. No refunds after February 28.
NOTES: (1) Due to ongoing COVID concerns, appropriate masks will be required when not eating or drinking. (2) This event will be in-person or virtual, but not both or hybrid. The in-person event will not be recorded, but copies of the Powerpoints, if approved, will be made available in pdf format on our website following the event. (3) If we are forced to go virtual due to COVID, the fees will be $15 for members, $20 for non-members, and $5 for students. You will be refunded the difference in fees. The final decision will be made on February 25.
