Forestry Management and Snowshoe Hike at Northwoods Christian Camp
The Chippewa Luce Mackinac Conservation District in Partnership with Northwoods Christian Camp on the Rapson Creek will host a Forestry Management and Snowshoe Hike on Saturday, February 19th from 2-5 PM. Forester Dylan Parker with the Forestry Assistance Program and Conservation Technician Melanie Chasseur with the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program will lead landowners through a discussion of best management practices and what to consider when creating a Forestry Management Plan. Using Northwood’s FMP, we will highlight the characteristics of a thorough plan and the values that landowners prioritized for their land. Partners will lead a discussion with landowners about creating healthy forests, management based on common landowner values, the process of obtaining an FMP, and guide landowners towards assistance programs available in our area.
After the information and light, warm refreshments are digested, CLMCD partners will lead a snowshoe hike through Northwood’s trail system, to discuss FMP considerations, the diversity of species found in our Eastern Upper Peninsula Forests, invasive species, forest risks, and landowner values such as building wildlife habitat, enhancing biodiversity in stands, managing for timber sales, and growing healthy forests
