Do you own a forested property that was originally planted as a Christmas tree plantation. The trees are Scotch pine and spruce and now they are big and scraggley. These trees are no longer viable for Christmas trees and they will likely never produce quality forest products. Maybe you purchased an abandoned Christmas tree farm for hunting property and you want to convert the land into better habitat.
The Wexford, Missaukee and Kalkaska Conservation Districts and the Forestry Assistance Program is offering a workshop on the obstacles and the opportunities of converting your abandoned Christmas tree farm into a productive and more natural forest. The workshop will discuss tree removal, possible cost-sharing possibilities and site preparation and planting .
The workshop will begin at the Wexford Township Hall, on the corner of 7 Rd. and 8 Rd., 6 miles east and north of Mesick, MI and end with field visits within 2 miles of the hall.
Pre-register is required by calling the Wexford Conservation District office at 231-775-7681 ext. 3, or emailing: larry.czelusta@macd.org by August 14th. Coffee, juice and snack will be provided, a $15 donation is requested.
