7th Annual Michigan Forest Celebration

Join us September 13th & 14th for two full days of presentations, field day site visits, and self-guided tours, coupled with opportunities to socialize and spend time in beautiful Greater Grand Rapids!

Friday, September 13, 2019

8:00 – Noon: Registration & Welcome – Holiday Inn GR Downtown

9:00 – 10:30: “Invasive Species” presentations – Holiday Inn – Grand Room

10:30 – 12:00: MFA Business Meeting (All are welcome!) – Holiday Inn – Grand Room

12:00 – 1:00: Lunch (pre-registration requiredincluded with Full or Friday-only registration)

2:00 – 4:00: Concurrent Sessions: “Michigan Forests and Furniture” presentation at the GR Public Museum (located across the street from the Holiday Inn), followed by self-guided tour. Pre-registration required. “Women Owning Woodlands (WOW)” panel discussion

4:00 – 4:45: River Rapids Restoration Project presentation – Ab-Nab-Awen Park

6:00 – 8:30: Awards Dinner and Presentations – Downtown Market at 435 Ionia Ave SW Mayor Rosalynn Bliss on the “State of the City Trees”; Urban Forest Project; and raffle. (Following dinner, you are invited to explore the GR nightlife – Founders Brewery, etc.)

Saturday September 14, 2019

Field day events will include both morning and afternoon options held between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm. All meals will be on your own for Saturday. Maps and additional information will be available at registration check-in and sent via email in early September. Social event options for Saturday evening will also be available for those staying in the area until Sunday. (Interested parties can coordinate carpooling groups during dinner on Friday.)

Cok Family Tree Farm (Sparta MI) – Beautiful, 240 acre parcel of woodland, lake and wetland areas. Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year 2001. Learn about blue ribbon and veneer hardwood, conservation easements, and estate/succession planning. Local experts and representatives from numerous organizations will be on-site with information stations.

The Highlands/Blandford (Grand Rapids MI) – Unique reclamation and restoration project of a former golf course through a partnership between the West Michigan Land Conservancy and Blandford Nature Center.
