2022 Hillsdale County Nutrient Management Field Day

“Rain or Shine – Join us for a Day in the Field –

The 8th Annual Hillsdale County Nutrient Management Field Day is scheduled for Thursday, August 18 at MAEAP Verified Stoney Ridge Farms in Waldron, MI. Hosted by the Hillsdale Conservation District and Hillsdale County Farm Bureau, this event offers over 200 farmers and guests hands-on education in the heart of the Western Lake Erie Basin Watershed as well as RUP Credits, CCA Credits, farm-to-fork lunch, and adjourns with an Ice Cream Social.

2022 Speakers Topics Include: Keynote Speaker – Loran Steinlage, Regenerative Farmer and Innovator from West Union, Iowa on his farm’s journey to regenerative agriculture, as well as insight to advancing equipment to meet new and regenerative ag practices; Craig Anderson, Michigan Farm Bureau Ag Labor and Safety Specialist on Recognizing Workplace Injuries for Prevention and Proper Reporting, Heat Stress National Enforcement Program, Integrating Protections in Pesticide PPE, and Sanitation and Food Safety Procedures; Joe and Clint Nester, Nester AG LLC Consultants on Tri-state Recs and Nutrient Management – Where’s the Potash?; Claire Smith, Founder and CEO of Teffola, Plymouth, MI on Direct Marketing and Small Grains – “”How to Cutout the Middle Man and Go Direct!”; Todd Feenstra, President Tritium Inc. and Executive Director of Midwest Water Stewards on Practical Water Stewardship and Educating your Community; Cover Crops and No-Till – Local Farmer; Topic TBD (Solar Panels and Land Use?) Tess VanGorder & Laura Campbell, Michigan Farm Bureau. The lunch session will include updates and an overview of the 319 Bean Creek Watershed Implementation Project by Tom VanWagner at Lenawee CD; the Afternoon Session will include Emergency Response to Accidents Involving Livestock (ERAIL) with the Safety Trailer on site for a demo with Tom Guthrie, MSU Statewide Extension Educator.

The Field Day will conclude with an Ice Cream Social on MAEAP Updates, RUP Credits, and Door Prizes.

Registration Opens at 7:30 am; Program begins at 8:30 am. Lunch is served at Noon.
